Morrisons, one of the UK's largest supermarket chains, has selected Everseen, a global leader in Vision AI solutions for the retail industry, in a long-term strategic partnership. Everseen will deploy its Evercheck solution across 200 Morrisons stores in the initial rollout phase, enhancing the checkout experience for customers and colleagues alike.

As customer expectations evolve toward faster, more convenient shopping experiences, self-service checkouts have become increasingly popular with Morrisons customers, ensuring a quick and efficient way to pay for items.

Everseen’s Evercheck platform uses real-time computer vision to simplify the self-checkout process. Gentle, on-screen prompts allow shoppers to easily correct any missed items themselves, keeping queues moving. The software integrates seamlessly with existing systems, optimising store operations and freeing store teams to focus entirely on customer service.

Francesca Bezoari, Store Support Office Director at Morrisons, said:

“Our new partnership with Everseen enables us to provide the fast and seamless checkout experience our customers want, while simultaneously equipping our colleagues to maintain the exceptional service that Morrisons is known for.”

Following a successful trial, Morrisons committed to deploying Everseen's Vision AI technology to address a critical challenge in modern retail: delivering the convenience and speed of self-checkout while maintaining a seamless, frustration-free shopping experience for customers.

Joe White, CEO of Everseen, said:

“Morrisons recognise that the best AI solutions deliver measurable results without compromising the customer experience. Our Vision AI platform enables Morrisons to improve its satisfaction scores, proving that operational performance and customer service aren't competing priorities. We're proud to bring our experience from deploying across thousands of global checkouts to support Morrisons transformation.”

Morrisons has a rich history that dates back to 1899 when William Morrison first opened an egg and butter stall in Bradford. 125 years on, customers continue to enjoy our great quality British food and our Market Street heritage is clear to see in our c. 500 stores where skilled colleagues such as our butchers, fishmongers, and bakers proudly make and serve customers fresh food every day.

As well as our supermarkets, we also have 1,700 Morrisons Daily convenience stores - around 700 of which are franchise stores - and an online delivery service where our customers can order their groceries from the comfort of their own home and have them delivered by us or one of our partners including Amazon, Deliveroo and Just Eat.

We have a strategic partnership with Myton Food Group, packing and processing fresh meats and fish, savoury and sweet pies, fruit and veg, flower bouquets, bread and more across 18 sites. Our unique relationship means we’re proud to be British farming’s single biggest direct customer.

Our wholesaler business serves customers across the UK and further afield through our extensive network of national and regional distribution depots.

Morrisons employs around 95,000 colleagues.

FAQs

Why is Morrisons adding AI to its self-checkout?
Morrisons is introducing Everseen's Evercheck, Vision AI that helps the self-checkout catch a missed or mis-scanned item in the moment and prompts you to correct it yourself. The goal is a smoother trip through checkout, with fewer interruptions, shorter waits, and colleagues freed up to help customers rather than being called over for routine fixes.

Does Morrisons' self-checkout AI use facial recognition or record me?
No. Evercheck looks at the transaction (what's scanned against what's in the basket), not at the identity of the person at the till, and it does not use facial recognition.

Is Evercheck a surveillance or security system?
No. Evercheck's purpose is a smoother, more accurate checkout for customers and colleagues. By helping ensure items are scanned correctly, it naturally supports accuracy at the till, but it doesn't profile, identify, or target shoppers, and it isn't a surveillance or security system.

How does the technology work?
Evercheck uses computer vision to compare what's scanned against what's in the basket. If something looks missed, the screen prompts you to rescan. It doesn't identify who you are; it checks the transaction.
